The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter is a facilty open 365 days a year, providing both overnight shelter as well as a Day Program. We serve homeless adults and very low income members of our community. Our primary purpose is to offer a form of crisis stabilization and then develop a support system to empower people to move beyond their current crisis and homelessness. We are emphatically collaborative in our efforts. The Shelter provides emergency, short-term shelter to homeless people aged 18 and above within the limits of our resources and our mission, and consistent with our funding and financial sources. Every effort is made to provide a safe and secure environment in an atmosphere of mutual respect. It is expected that all guests of the Shelter do their best to behave in ways that are respectful of themselves, all others at the shelter, and the Greater Bangor Community. The policies are designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all who use the Shelter.

There is a solution to Maine's hunger problem For every person who is currently in need, there are even more Maine citizens and businesses who are able and willing to reach out and give them a helping hand. Reaching out Since 1981, Good Shepherd Food-Bank has worked diligently to establish essential partnerships with many others concerned about ending needless hunger here in Maine. Be it an individual, church or civic group, small business or large corporation, by partnering together we have made huge strides towards our goal. We must not stop pressing ahead however in our efforts to conquer a problem of this importance and magnitude. Gathering millions of pounds of food each year! Good Shepherd Food-Bank relies on its solid relationships with Maine's food industry in order to obtain millions of pounds of food each year. Additionally, we secure yet more truckloads for the state of Maine from national food donors through our affiliation with Feeding America - formerly America's Second Harvest. Whether it's from a large food manufacturer or a local farmer donating excess produce, there are large quantities of food available, much of which would go to waste if it weren't for the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.

There are many ways to describe Preble Street: drop-in centers, soup kitchens, food pantry, shelters, social work services, supported housing. These descriptions only tell part of the story of who we are, though. We are a community at Preble Street. The “We” means everyone involved: staff, board, volunteers, donors, and especially those who use our services. Everyone is welcome at Preble Street, everyone is respected and treated with dignity, and everyone is invited to contribute to the effort of meeting our mission: "To provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty; and to advocate for solutions to these problems."
